The Makita UC003G is a 40 V XGT cordless chainsaw that starts at the push of a button – no petrol, no pull cord and no exhaust fumes. The compact top-handle body and 300 mm guide bar make it nimble for pruning branches, felling shrubs and small trees, clearing storm damage and cutting firewood to length in the yard. The brushless motor drives the chain at up to 24 m/s, matching roughly a 30 cm³ petrol saw – the chips fly and the saw does not bog down even in green wood. The variable-speed trigger meters the power precisely, and the electric brake stops the chain the moment you release it. Automatic chain lubrication adjusts to the job, and you can check the oil level through the window in the filler port without opening the cap. Chain tensioning is done with captive nuts that cannot get lost in the undergrowth. WetGuard protection (IPX4) shrugs off moisture, so light rain does not stop the job. Note that a top-handle saw is designed for professionals working up in trees – when cutting on the ground, always hold the saw with both hands.

Frequently asked questions
Does the saw need petrol or a fuel-oil mix?
No – the saw runs on a 40 V XGT battery, so there is no two-stroke mix to blend and no pull cord to yank. It does use chain oil from the tank as normal, and that is included in the rental.
What jobs is this saw suited to?
Pruning branches, felling shrubs and small trees, clearing storm damage and cutting firewood to length. With the 300 mm bar you can cut through a trunk of about 25 cm from one side – anything heavier calls for a larger saw.
What does top-handle mean?
The handle sits on top of the saw, which makes the machine compact and nimble in tight spots. The model is designed for professionals working up in trees: when cutting on the ground, always hold the saw with both hands, never with one.
How long does the battery last?
It depends on how hard the wood is and how many cuts you make – light pruning goes a long way, while continuous cross-cutting drains the battery noticeably faster. The charger comes along, so you can top up during a break. For a long job it is worth reserving a second battery; ask about availability when booking.
What protective equipment do I need?
Using a chainsaw calls for cut-resistant trousers or boots, a helmet with a visor and ear defenders, and cut-resistant gloves. Protective equipment is not included in the rental – bring your own and wear it even for a short job.
